Blogmas Day 4 | Christmas Morning Routine

There’s nothing quite like waking up on a morning in December. The sun is shining (at least in Australia), there’s advent chocolate to eat, Vlogmas to watch and Christmas mugs to be drunk from. It’s the most wonderful time of year for good reason! Today’s post is me taking you through my festive morning routine in December which is just the same as my regular routine, just extra Christmassy 🎄

The first thing I do is make my bed, then I head into the kitchen to brew myself some hazelnut coffee and do my Kinder advent calendar.

After this, I head back to my desk to get some journaling done. I like to do this first thing to make sure my mind is clear of all the crap that comes with being awake. I also like to do some tarot – people may disagree, but I feel like it’s kind of the same as reading my horoscope, just more interactive. I also use this time to check my bullet journal and remind myself what I have on that day.

One of my favourite things to do is then spray some Christmas room spray around and pump some Christmas tunes while I get dressed, do my hair and my makeup. It just puts me in such a good mood!

I then choose my Christmas earrings of the day, put on a Christmas scent and pack myself some Christmas treats for work, then I’m out the door.

Blogmas Day 3 | Christmas Cookies

Christmas cookies are just essential for December, hands down. Today I want to give you my favourite recipe so you can make some beautiful, delicious cookies for yourself! I used GF flour as I am coeliac, but feel free to adapt to your needs 🙂

3/4 cup softened butter
1 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 & 1/2 cups plain flour (+ extra for kneading and rolling)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Cream butter and sugar together, then add the wet ingredients. Mix together before slowly adding the sifted dry ingredients.

When all combined, cover with cling wrap and chill for at least an hour (overnight is perfect).

After flouring a surface and the rolling pin, take the chilled dough out and roll between 1/4 inch & 1/2 inch thick.

Cut out cookie shapes, and bake one inch apart for 6-8 minutes. Let completely cool before icing.

Blogmas Day 2 | Christmas Bucket List

If you saw my last post, you know that I love my Bullet Journal this month. I thought it would be fun to add a little Christmas Bucket List in there as a) I love lists and b) I love Christmas, so I thought it was only right to combine the two and add the things I want to do during the festive season! Hope it inspired you to get Christmassy this December 🙂

Blogmas Day 1 | My December Bullet Journal

I have been more absent than ever on this blog and I do feel bad about it, but when you blog as a full-time job, doing it for yourself kind of loses its magic. That said, I absolutely love Christmas (as any long-time readers would know), so I thought it was only fitting to crack open the ol’ laptop and spill some Christmassy words from my brain into your brain. I will only be doing 20 days of Blogmas this year as I am not only working full time during the period, I also have three interstate trips booked, 5 concerts and more than a few events 😳 Please bear with me, but also please enjoy the festivities ❄️

Without further ado, here is my December Bullet Journal:

I used to Bullet Journal back in 2017, but I wasn’t very good, nor did I really know what I was going. Giving up in the later months, I decided on a planner for 2018 but quickly realised how much I missed the freedom a bullet journal provides. So, in November I decided to go back to a bujo but really put the effort in to make it beautiful so I would enjoy creating and using it. Last month I tried out a lavender theme and loved it, but this month I went full Christmas (obviously).

I didn’t theme the month too specifically, I kept with the jumper/mitten/beanie/baking theme a lot to get all those cozy vibes going, but I tried to theme each spread more than the entire month. I felt that this gave me more freedom to get creative and I love the way it came out! I did some fun spreads like my quotes and nutcracker and added some little details like the flight numbers section as I have looooads of flight this month.

I used a pencil to doodle, a Miniso gel pen to draw and then I erased the pencil. I used Faber Castell Manga brush tips for calligraphy and some colouring, as well as Crayola Supertip markers. My journal is a dotted A5 from Officeworks.

Much love and I hope you’re feeling festive! Happy first day of December ❤

Life Update

It’s funny – since I stopped writing on this blog, blogging has become my full time job.

If you’ve kept up with my story for a while, you’d know that I started this blog in 2014 to share my thoughts on all things beauty. Back then, I was absolutely obsessed with the beauty community on YouTube and WordPress, and wanted a piece of the action. Over time, my interests transitioned to a more lifestyle-based direction and I began to create more of that content. I loved it. I truly, truly did. But then I moved states.

This is not to say that moving house made me stop writing. I made me stop writing. After moving, I immediately felt settled. I felt that this was the place I needed to be and that things would just be perfect. But summer turned to autumn and next thing I knew I was 4 months unemployed, having applied for over 100 jobs in the area and getting nothing. I started to panic.

In April, I got offered what can only be described as my dream job. I write blogs for a large streetwear company for their homepage, create any other copy they need and run their verified Instagram account. My degree in media and interest in writing had aligned for me to take this job.

But, all of a sudden, I was unhappy.

Suddenly I was nostalgic for my unemployment. Gone were those leisurely days of freedom where I would wake up at 11am, mosey on down to the shops with my flatmate and spend the day and night stuffing our faces with junk food. Time was gone. I spent all my hours at work and because my flatmate works nightshift, so I found myself alone every damn night with no other friends and nothing else do to.

My energy and mood dropped lightning fast. Although better now, it’s taken a lot to even begin to recover. Nothing can quite prepare you for a complete existential crisis when you find yourself alone each night, but knowing you should be happy because you have everything. The dream job. A beautiful home. So on.

I had forgotten all about this blog. It’s crazy to think that as I look back through my old posts and see all the hours and hours of hard work and dedication that went into it. I poured my heart and soul onto these digital pages, saving up for months to buy a decent DSLR to take high-quality images and spending hours planning and prepping and photographing and writing. This was my own side project that I did simply because I loved it.

I’m not really sure why I stopped. Laziness was part of it, plus I also felt like I had nothing to write about. When I remembered about it, I felt I had no time. I thought no one would want to keep reading it.

But then I realised – I never did this for anyone else. I did it for me.

And so, I would like to come back. Not permanently, not on a schedule, not on anything. But I would like to rekindle the love I once had for my own little space on the internet and create some things in my spare time that help me feel less alone, more connected and more whole.

2017 Favourites

This post is a month too late but hey, we got here in the end. In no particular order, here is a giant list of all the things that got me going in 2017 – things I think you all might enjoy too! We’ve got it all here – beauty, lifestyle, travel, music, movies, tv…

Zoella Moisturisers

I absolutely fell in love with these whipped body butters in 2017 – they are really moisturising and smell divine, plus they feel silky smooth on my skin. I have both the original scent and the newer Gelat’eau fragrance which are both really lovely. These are so cheap on – I highly suggest you check them out!

NYX Foundation Drops

It will be no surprise to any loyal readers that I am obsessed with these NYX foundation drops. Finally! A Colour! That matches! My pasty ass! Eeeek! They are super full coverage and build very well as a concealer, and come in a range of shades. The formula is very liquidy and I’ve found although it works well with a beauty blender, a stiff brush (like the Real Techniques expert face brush) is what it takes to blend this bad boy out.

Brown Eyeliner

Again, to no surprise, 2017 was the year of all around the eye brown eyeliner. I realised when I started working full time that a) I do not have the patience, time, energy or fucks to do liquid eyeliner at 7am while crying into my cereal, b) with my brown eyes, brown eyeliner makes them look more brown (can I say brown this many times in a sentence?) and c) eyeliner all around my tiny eyes makes them look smaller, yes, but also makes the whites pop so they look more intense. I love the look and I’m glad I discovered it for myself last year.

Miniso BB Cream

Hands down, this is the best BB cream I’ve ever tried. Yes, it’s a bit pink, but it’s b e a u t i f u l. It glides on, has reasonable coverage, evens out my skin and makes me look glowy. It’s SO cheap it’s ridiculous, so I highly recommend popping into your nearest Miniso and picking it up!

White Fox Boutique Alexa Dress

I wore this banger to my brother’s wedding and got so many compliments on it! Desperate to wear it again – any suggestions on where?

I don’t have anything else to say other than Korea was my absolute favourite thing of 2017. I adored every moment and am already planning on going back at some point this year. Check out my Korea posts!

Essential Travel Tips for Korean Travel

Top Music

  1. Client Liaison – 80s style Aussie pop band, saw them twice this year
  2. Two Door Cinema Club – we saw these guys live and they k i l l e d it
  3. Harry Styles – his new album is everything I hoped for and more ❤
  4. Foals – really rocky discovery and I just love them
  5. The Weeknd – We went and saw him in concert and he was insane

Top TV Shows

  1. Handmaids Tale – by far my favourite show of 2017. No words. It’s just exquisite television.
  2. Peaky Blinders S4 – Vikings & PB are tied for 2nd place, both were incredible seasons of the shows and I was very impressed!
  3. Vikings S5
  4. Psycho Pass – this anime is one of my all time favourtes and I’m so mad it took me this long to discover it!
  5. Game of Thrones (obligatory mention) (it was okay)

Top Films

  1. Blade Runner 2049 – one of my favourite movies I’ve ever seen. Beautiful, cinematic, incredible story and soundtrack. They nailed this sequel.
  2. Kingsman Golden Circle – an insanely funny sequel to the original, I was worried they were going to fuck this up but they definitely didn’t! I can’t not laugh at this movie, it was so funny!
  3. Spiderman Homecoming / Thor 3 – both these Marvel movies were so funny! I was very pleasantly surprised with both and if you like fun, good time movies, these are for you
  4. Okja – very hard hitting, this movie really tugged at the heartstrings but was lovely to watch. Excellent movie of 2017.

My youtubers of this year were by far Kalyn Nicholson, Lavendaire and Amanda Rach Lee. Kalyn does lifestyle content that is super motivating and inspiring, Lavendaire does videos on intentional living, organisation and creativity, and Amanda does monthly bullet journal videos which are not only beautiful, but very relaxing to watch. I love both these amazing girls!

What did you love in 2017??
