It’s funny – since I stopped writing on this blog, blogging has become my full time job.
If you’ve kept up with my story for a while, you’d know that I started this blog in 2014 to share my thoughts on all things beauty. Back then, I was absolutely obsessed with the beauty community on YouTube and WordPress, and wanted a piece of the action. Over time, my interests transitioned to a more lifestyle-based direction and I began to create more of that content. I loved it. I truly, truly did. But then I moved states.
This is not to say that moving house made me stop writing. I made me stop writing. After moving, I immediately felt settled. I felt that this was the place I needed to be and that things would just be perfect. But summer turned to autumn and next thing I knew I was 4 months unemployed, having applied for over 100 jobs in the area and getting nothing. I started to panic.
In April, I got offered what can only be described as my dream job. I write blogs for a large streetwear company for their homepage, create any other copy they need and run their verified Instagram account. My degree in media and interest in writing had aligned for me to take this job.
But, all of a sudden, I was unhappy.
Suddenly I was nostalgic for my unemployment. Gone were those leisurely days of freedom where I would wake up at 11am, mosey on down to the shops with my flatmate and spend the day and night stuffing our faces with junk food. Time was gone. I spent all my hours at work and because my flatmate works nightshift, so I found myself alone every damn night with no other friends and nothing else do to.
My energy and mood dropped lightning fast. Although better now, it’s taken a lot to even begin to recover. Nothing can quite prepare you for a complete existential crisis when you find yourself alone each night, but knowing you should be happy because you have everything. The dream job. A beautiful home. So on.
I had forgotten all about this blog. It’s crazy to think that as I look back through my old posts and see all the hours and hours of hard work and dedication that went into it. I poured my heart and soul onto these digital pages, saving up for months to buy a decent DSLR to take high-quality images and spending hours planning and prepping and photographing and writing. This was my own side project that I did simply because I loved it.
I’m not really sure why I stopped. Laziness was part of it, plus I also felt like I had nothing to write about. When I remembered about it, I felt I had no time. I thought no one would want to keep reading it.
But then I realised – I never did this for anyone else. I did it for me.
And so, I would like to come back. Not permanently, not on a schedule, not on anything. But I would like to rekindle the love I once had for my own little space on the internet and create some things in my spare time that help me feel less alone, more connected and more whole.
This post is a month too late but hey, we got here in the end. In no particular order, here is a giant list of all the things that got me going in 2017 – things I think you all might enjoy too! We’ve got it all here – beauty, lifestyle, travel, music, movies, tv…
I absolutely fell in love with these whipped body butters in 2017 – they are really moisturising and smell divine, plus they feel silky smooth on my skin. I have both the original scent and the newer Gelat’eau fragrance which are both really lovely. These are so cheap on feelunique.com – I highly suggest you check them out!
NYX Foundation Drops
It will be no surprise to any loyal readers that I am obsessed with these NYX foundation drops. Finally! A Colour! That matches! My pasty ass! Eeeek! They are super full coverage and build very well as a concealer, and come in a range of shades. The formula is very liquidy and I’ve found although it works well with a beauty blender, a stiff brush (like the Real Techniques expert face brush) is what it takes to blend this bad boy out.
Again, to no surprise, 2017 was the year of all around the eye brown eyeliner. I realised when I started working full time that a) I do not have the patience, time, energy or fucks to do liquid eyeliner at 7am while crying into my cereal, b) with my brown eyes, brown eyeliner makes them look more brown (can I say brown this many times in a sentence?) and c) eyeliner all around my tiny eyes makes them look smaller, yes, but also makes the whites pop so they look more intense. I love the look and I’m glad I discovered it for myself last year.
Miniso BB Cream
Hands down, this is the best BB cream I’ve ever tried. Yes, it’s a bit pink, but it’s b e a u t i f u l. It glides on, has reasonable coverage, evens out my skin and makes me look glowy. It’s SO cheap it’s ridiculous, so I highly recommend popping into your nearest Miniso and picking it up!
White Fox Boutique Alexa Dress
I wore this banger to my brother’s wedding and got so many compliments on it! Desperate to wear it again – any suggestions on where?
I don’t have anything else to say other than Korea was my absolute favourite thing of 2017. I adored every moment and am already planning on going back at some point this year. Check out my Korea posts!

Top TV Shows
My youtubers of this year were by far Kalyn Nicholson, Lavendaire and Amanda Rach Lee. Kalyn does lifestyle content that is super motivating and inspiring, Lavendaire does videos on intentional living, organisation and creativity, and Amanda does monthly bullet journal videos which are not only beautiful, but very relaxing to watch. I love both these amazing girls!
What did you love in 2017??
Moving house is always such a strange time. It seems all emotions think this is the perfect time to come together and stir you to feel nostalgia for things you haven’t previously, or to be excited for future events that you never thought would happen. Luckily for me, all that fear, excitement, anxiousness and energy that comes from a big (interstate) move has culminated in me being the happiest and feeling the most settled I have in years and years.
So, in celebration of this big move, I thought I’d give you a tour of my room. Although it’s all the same furniture from my last apartment, I figured I’d want to see it anyway, so here you are. I have moved from an apartment with just me to a shared flat, so I am keeping more things in my bedroom than I did previously. I have moved my desk to a separate place in my living room and am happy to do a desk tour (it’s brand new lol) if you would like me to. Without further ado – let’s begin.
My apartment has these beautiful floor to ceiling windows which are the most beautiful thing to fall asleep and wake up to. I get sunlight first thing in the morning and speckled city lights during the evenings. I decided to lay my bed in this direction to make the best use of the space, but I’m not averse to changing it around as time progresses. I just don’t think I’ll ever have my headboard to the beautiful windows.
I made these curtains for my place I had during Uni for privacy, but realised how beautiful they looked when intertwined with my curtain fairy lights. I was thinking of putting a blue and white tapestry behind my bedhead, but I really like the delicacy of the white. It also means I can change the colour of my quilt cover and it will always go with my room.
Bed frame & Side Tables – IKEA
Bedside Lamp – The Reject Shop
Cushions – Thrifted
Aroma Diffuser – Kmart
Next to my bed I have this bookshelf from IKEA. I have a larger bookshelf in the living room, but I use this one to house a few of my favourite books, my candles and jewellery box. Unfortunately, my makeup doesn’t fit in the width of the shelving, so I have it next door. I don’t mind though, having my lipsticks on display is lovely.
I have these frames hanging up and my memory board. I used to have this leaning wherever it would fit, but I decided to just put it up, and now when I’m lying in bed I can see all the amazing things I’ve had the privilege to do, which really fills me up with gratitude. I also have this hanging shelf for all my sunglasses, which look great on display and make it so easy for me to remember what I own. I also love these fun Polaroids of me and my house mate that make it so much cosier.
Drawers – Officeworks
Acrylic Lipstick Holders – Miniso
Frames – Kmart
Hanging Shelf – Kmart
I put a command hook up next to my wardrobe so I can hang my handbags on it when I come home, which is honestly such a hack for making sure you never end up with bags and other crap lying on the floor. Unfortunately, these cupboards don’t have drawers but they do have shelves which I’ve done my best to make good use of, but if anyone has any tips on how to make them better, please let me know! I have put this three shelf unit from fantastic furniture on its side to house my shoes, which is a great way to keep things neat and save space. My copper laundry basket is from Kmart (of course).
I really love my new room, and I think it’s very important to love the space you’re in. There are always things you can do to improve your area, and having it clean and calm does genuinely make you a much happier person.
Thank you all so much for reading!
We’ve passed it – that metaphorical line in the sand. For some, New Years marks the beginning of a new era, a new life, a new them. For others, it’s just a day. For me, the reality is somewhere in the middle. I love the idea of starting afresh but in reality I’m the same me I was on the 31st of December, just with an extra surge of motivation. As you get older, these whole things start to feel a whole lot less exciting. I’m not sure what it is, but finding the magic in the mundane is so much more of a struggle when you have rent to pay and people to please and work to complete. It may not help that I’m writing this at 5.38 pm on the 2nd of January after a New Year’s Day festival and I haven’t left bed once. My feet are destroyed. I have taken three naps. I’m only 21 – what will I be like in old age?!
I’m writing this post for a few reasons. First and foremost, I want to wish each and every one of you the happiest of New Years and I sincerely hope that all of you, my supportive and lovely readers, get the 2018 you imagine. I also want to give you an update of the beginning of my 2018.
I have decided that I am not happy where I am, and am taking quite a big leap of faith in just a few days. I am moving, with my best friend, 12 hours from anywhere I’ve ever lived into a brand new state. There are a few reasons we are doing this, some being mundane (Sydney is extraordinarily expensive), but the reality is that it is happening and I am excited and shit scared. Doing something so drastic just because really puts things into perspective for you, and I wanted to share my thoughts on this.
I started this blog not thinking it would go anywhere. I had several prior attempts at blogging that were nothing more than angsty teen ramblings and half-formed ideas, but here I have found an audience that seems to genuinely enjoy what I have to say and I am so, so grateful. However, this year especially, I have lost a bit of my love for this whole thing. I don’t want to feel like that, and I most certainly don’t want this feeling to echo here – a place where quite a few of you have said you come to read something relaxing. And so, I’ve made a decision for 2018 – don’t worry, it’s not that drastic! From now on, I’ll be uploading once a week only. I’ve yet to decide on an upload day (that will come after I move), but I want to put more energy on one post. I want my photography to be beyond mediocre, I want my writing to be fluid and I want to feel that creative energy again.
With so much content being posted online these days, I simply want to make sure I am presenting you all with pieces of work that are beautiful in themselves. I will of course still share my lifestyle favourites, fun findings in beauty and my book reviews, but my posts from now on will be more polished and cohesive – not to mention longer!
This year I want you to come with me as I grow and turn my blog into posts I feel genuinely proud of. You all deserve that.
Welcome to my final Blogmas for 2017! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my 12-day series as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it and it’s gotten you feeling all kinds of festive! For our last day, I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas in the best way I know how – a poem. I love writing poetry so I hope you guys enjoy this – an Aussie’s take on Christmas!
Be sure to catch up on all my posts – there’s something for everyone!
I’ve been deciphering the days,
All twelve of them.
Hot here where it should be cold,
Stinging in the suns rays.
The nights are long
And the days are longer,
We are lost in a tangle of cold wine,
Heads spinning with Christmas song.
Our trees are plastic pine,
Covered in tinsel twine.
Throws of glittering gold,
Flashes of scarlet,
A symphony of silver,
Sparkling through windows for all to behold.
Don’t think too little of us without our snow,
Because we are just as festive as you, you know.
Slightly odd to celebrate the ice in fire,
But Christmastime in Australia I will forever admire.
Welcome to my 12 days of Blogmas series! Every other day until Christmas I will be posting something festive for you all to enjoy 🙂
Today I’m laying an old-school get ready with me on you all, as I had my annual family Christmas lunch a bit earlier than normal and so got to wear my Christmas outfit before Christmas day. This works well, because it might serve as inspiration for some of you!
