2017 Favourites

This post is a month too late but hey, we got here in the end. In no particular order, here is a giant list of all the things that got me going in 2017 – things I think you all might enjoy too! We’ve got it all here – beauty, lifestyle, travel, music, movies, tv…

Zoella Moisturisers

I absolutely fell in love with these whipped body butters in 2017 – they are really moisturising and smell divine, plus they feel silky smooth on my skin. I have both the original scent and the newer Gelat’eau fragrance which are both really lovely. These are so cheap on feelunique.com – I highly suggest you check them out!

NYX Foundation Drops

It will be no surprise to any loyal readers that I am obsessed with these NYX foundation drops. Finally! A Colour! That matches! My pasty ass! Eeeek! They are super full coverage and build very well as a concealer, and come in a range of shades. The formula is very liquidy and I’ve found although it works well with a beauty blender, a stiff brush (like the Real Techniques expert face brush) is what it takes to blend this bad boy out.

Brown Eyeliner

Again, to no surprise, 2017 was the year of all around the eye brown eyeliner. I realised when I started working full time that a) I do not have the patience, time, energy or fucks to do liquid eyeliner at 7am while crying into my cereal, b) with my brown eyes, brown eyeliner makes them look more brown (can I say brown this many times in a sentence?) and c) eyeliner all around my tiny eyes makes them look smaller, yes, but also makes the whites pop so they look more intense. I love the look and I’m glad I discovered it for myself last year.

Miniso BB Cream

Hands down, this is the best BB cream I’ve ever tried. Yes, it’s a bit pink, but it’s b e a u t i f u l. It glides on, has reasonable coverage, evens out my skin and makes me look glowy. It’s SO cheap it’s ridiculous, so I highly recommend popping into your nearest Miniso and picking it up!

White Fox Boutique Alexa Dress

I wore this banger to my brother’s wedding and got so many compliments on it! Desperate to wear it again – any suggestions on where?

KOREA

I don’t have anything else to say other than Korea was my absolute favourite thing of 2017. I adored every moment and am already planning on going back at some point this year. Check out my Korea posts!

Top Music

  1. Client Liaison – 80s style Aussie pop band, saw them twice this year
  2. Two Door Cinema Club – we saw these guys live and they k i l l e d it
  3. Harry Styles – his new album is everything I hoped for and more ❤
  4. Foals – really rocky discovery and I just love them
  5. The Weeknd – We went and saw him in concert and he was insane

Top TV Shows

  1. Handmaids Tale – by far my favourite show of 2017. No words. It’s just exquisite television.
  2. Peaky Blinders S4 – Vikings & PB are tied for 2nd place, both were incredible seasons of the shows and I was very impressed!
  3. Vikings S5
  4. Psycho Pass – this anime is one of my all time favourtes and I’m so mad it took me this long to discover it!
  5. Game of Thrones (obligatory mention) (it was okay)

Top Films

  1. Blade Runner 2049 – one of my favourite movies I’ve ever seen. Beautiful, cinematic, incredible story and soundtrack. They nailed this sequel.
  2. Kingsman Golden Circle – an insanely funny sequel to the original, I was worried they were going to fuck this up but they definitely didn’t! I can’t not laugh at this movie, it was so funny!
  3. Spiderman Homecoming / Thor 3 – both these Marvel movies were so funny! I was very pleasantly surprised with both and if you like fun, good time movies, these are for you
  4. Okja – very hard hitting, this movie really tugged at the heartstrings but was lovely to watch. Excellent movie of 2017.

Youtubers

My youtubers of this year were by far Kalyn Nicholson, Lavendaire and Amanda Rach Lee. Kalyn does lifestyle content that is super motivating and inspiring, Lavendaire does videos on intentional living, organisation and creativity, and Amanda does monthly bullet journal videos which are not only beautiful, but very relaxing to watch. I love both these amazing girls!

What did you love in 2017??

June Favourites 2017

June was my birthday month, so there have been lots of new things I’ve been loving! However, to save double ups (as a VERY belated what I got for my birthday post is coming soon!) I thought I’d focus more on favourites from June that have nothing to do with my birthday. If you want to read about what I did, click here 🙂

Now, without further ado, let’s get into my June faves!

Watching the sun rise & set

I only recently started noticing the sun rising in the morning or setting at night, and have made an effort to take a pause in my day to watch it happen. I find it definitely puts in perspective all my worries and anxieties of the day that was or the day that’s coming, which helps me to be mindful, grateful and happy. When summer comes around, I’ll be sad to miss watching it come up.

Bath & Bodyworks Candle in Fresh Cut Lilacs

I bought this candle while on holiday for my 21st, as QLD is one of the only places in Australia with a Bath & Bodyworks for some reason. I was tossing up between this one and the honeysuckle candle, but in the end I had to choose this. It smells like a fresh summer garden, and makes me so happy.

IMG_2366

NYX Dark Circle Concealer

On to makeup, I picked up this under eye correcter early in the month and have been using it every day to help correct my dark circles that just come with working full time, while also prepping the base for my concealer to stick to. For such a cheap and cheerful product, I’ve really enjoyed it!

IMG_2367

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation

This foundation is super light and watery, but it covers like a dream. My favourite thing about it is that it actually comes in a colour fair enough for my skin without going pink. What a miracle! I definitely recommend this foundation, as it doesn’t go oily on me and lasts all day.

IMG_2370

Smashbox Spotlight Highlighter Palette

I know everyone is talking about this, but it is absolutely beautiful. When my Becca Moonstone smashed for the 3rd time, I knew I had to find a replacement as there are some breaks that rubbing alcohol just can’t fix (RIP). This has 3 stunning shades in beautiful packaging. I love using the darker two as eyeshadows, so it’s really travel friendly as with this and a bronzer, you wouldn’t need to worry about bringing an eyeshadow palette with you!

IMG_2368

Essence Camouflage Concealer

I bought this on a whim because it was so cheap. I love concealers, but I really didn’t expect it to work properly. But here I am, raving about it in my favourites. I really like it – the coverage isn’t the longest lasting or the fullest coverage, but I really enjoy how light it is and how thick the applicator is. There’s lots of product and it’s a great shade. Definitely recommend.

IMG_2373.JPG

Miniso Tea Tree Pore Strips

These are so cheap – and 100% better than the Biore pore strips! They are really great at extracting and comfortable to wear. I also feel like they are better for your skin, but that could just be the placebo of using something green on my skin…

IMG_2374

L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask

Speaking of green face stuff, this mask has been really nice in June. It definitely extracts and refines pores, but also reduces redness and calms dry skin and spots. It dries nice and tight so you definitely feel it working, which is always a bonus with a face mask.

IMG_2376

Apple Cider Vinegar

I read about ACV as a skincare treatment a while ago, but since I’ve put it to the test, I can (almost) swear by it. I dilute it about 3:1 and pop it in a spray bottle to spritz over my face morning and night. Yeah, it doesn’t smell to great, but I let it dry completely then go on to the rest of my skincare routine, and that tends to mask the scent a bit. It’s definitely made my skin brighter and clearer.

IMG_2377

Quay & LeSpecs Sunglasses

I recently got these Quay sunnies I’ve had my eye on for a long time (horray for TopShop sales in Australia) and these LeSpecs sunnies as a graduation gift from my best friend. I love both pairs! I’m a bit of a sunglasses hoarder, and one day might do a sunglasses collection post, but for now I’ve been rotating between these two and love how they transform any outfit.

IMG_2379

Lavendaire

My YouTube love of the month has been lifestyle design channel Lavendaire. She is so calming, inspiring and beautiful, and has definitely helped me find some more peace in my life. My favourite video of hers is all about gratitude, and I really recommend taking 5 minutes out of your day to watch it.

Okja

I know, I know, everyone and their mum has been talking about this Netflix film, but it truly is amazing. I won’t give away any of the plot, but it’s incredibly shot, cleverly written and all round a beautiful film. 10/10, deserves all the ratings it’s getting.

Brave New World – Adolus Huxley

I read this for the first time in June, which is insane considering how much I love a good dystopian fiction novel. I loved it – I loved it even more than 1984 which is one of my favourite books of all time. If you like sci-fi utopia, read this now.

2016 Favourites

2016 was, for a lot of people, their worst year to date. For me however, it was quite the opposite. As cliche as it sounds, I felt like this was the year I started to figure out who I was and what I wanted my life to look like. I finished my first novel, moved house, travelled overseas twice and graduated university. So, I thought I’d share my favourite things from this year. I hope you enjoy!

Favourite Moment

In 2016, My favourite moment was definitely walking out of my uni for the last time and knowing I’d never have to go back. Despite the pressure of the job hunt now, I am so freaking happy that chapter of my life is over.

Favourite Trip

As you’d know if you keep up with this blog, I’ve had some amazing opportunities in terms of travel this past year, heading to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and bits and pieces around Australia. My favourite out of all of them would probably have to be Hong Kong though, as it was just so much fun jam-packed into a week in an incredible city. HK isn’t the cheapest place to visit, but I would go back in a heartbeat.

Favourite Makeup Product

As you’ve probably guessed if you’ve seen any of my makeup posts, I was obsessed with the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette this year. I would happily ditch all my other eyeshadows for this one palette, as it just has everything and the quality is well worth the money.

img_1690

Favourite Perfume

2016 for me was the year of YSL’s Black Opium, which I never thought I’d buy into the hype about. But, when my best friend gave me a bottle of it that she didn’t like on herself, I totally understood the excitement about it. It’s just such a sexy scent, I always feel confident when I wear it.

IMG_1694.JPG

Favourite Clothing Item

My Adidas Stans have been my go-to shoe since I got them mid year, and honestly they are part of every outfit I wear. I usually pair them with some Topshop Jaime jeans, which have also been another favourite.

img_1689

Favourite Music

2016 had some amazing music, and my favourites were RUFUS, Ari’s album and Zayn.

Favourite Accessories

I received both this necklace (it has the Gemini constellation on it) and this silver ring from my mum, and I never take them off. They were definitely staples of 2016.

Favourite Movie

I loved the movie ‘Nerve’! I really enjoyed the way it was shot and the storyline, and would definitely recommend seeing it if you haven’t.

Favourite TV Show

The Kettering Incident is an Australian sci-fi thriller tv show that premiered in 2016 and it was absolutely incredible. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it, and I can’t wait for Season 2.

I couldn’t pick just one though – Westworld was an absolute masterpiece of TV and I was obsessed with it in 2016.

Favourite Book

This book about the Danish concept of ‘hygge’ really inspired me, and I really enjoyed my time reading it in 2016.

2015 Favourites

2015 was a weird year for me – mainly average, with some really good and really shit thrown in. Here’s to hoping that by leaving 2015 behind, I can kick ass in 2016 🙂 Here are my favourites of the year that was (in no particular order)

20160103_133130.jpg

Ecoya Wax Melts

These are really lovely, strongly scented wax melts that I light basically every day. They aren’t very expensive at all, and last for a longggg time. My favourite scents are Sweet Pea & Jasmine and Lotus Flower.

Dusk burner; $14.95

Tarte Amazonian Clay Pressed Powder ‘Smooth Operator’

I absolutely freaking love this setting powder. It sets my face without making it powdery and matte, and it’s super fine. It makes my makeup look great in both normal and flash photography, and it lasts a long time with this on!

Glitterbug – The Wombats

Easily in my top 3 albums of ALL TIME. I freaking love this album, and was lucky enough to see this tour in July. I’m also lucky enough to be going again today! My absolute favourite song from this album is ‘Be Your Shadow’

131042-L-LO

Tanya Burr Rosy Flush Cheek Palette

I love this palette – I use all three shades and they really suit my fair skin. Only complain I have is the cardboard packaging, but oh well! The products are very pigmented and blendable. A++

Mockingjay Part 2

No words. They did a stellar job of this.

Band T-Shirts

I’m gaining quite a collection of band and festival t-shirts, and I honestly never take them off. I’m always paring them with leggings, jeans, shorts, skirts – the list goes on. I was always comfy in a great conversation starter in 2015.

Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy

This sweet, fresh scent was always my go-to in 2015, and will continue to be using it throughout the New Year!

20160103_133237.jpg

Zoella ‘Wonder Hand’ Hand Cream

Most beautifully scented, moisturising hand cream I use every night before bed, that has really made a difference to the health of my skin and nails. I love it.

The Anti-Cool Girl – Rosie Waterland

This book is hilarious, terrifying, disgusting and so honest. It was a fantastic read that I highly recommend to ANYONE. This writer does Bachelor/Bachelorette recaps here in Australia that are my absolute favourite thing, and this book just proves her insane talent. Amazing book.

20160103_133221.jpg

Hannibal

By far, Hannibal was my show of 2015. This is an incredible, intelligent, scary and beautifully constructed show that I can’t get enough of. It’s so good, and I’m very sad that it has ended and I don’t get to fangirl over Mads.

Mads Mikkelson

Shaaanxo

The ultimate youtuber who deserves the world, and who began to daily vlog in 2015, is my youtube favourite. She was uploading 10 times a week during most of 2015, and this, combined with her excellent content, ranks her my number one youtuber (and I watch a shit-load of youtube) of the year.

Of course, though, my favourite thing ever about 2015 is you guys – the ones who, for some reason, read this blog. I truly appreciate every single one of you that take the time to like, comment, follow, or simply just read this shit I’m putting out there. I am ever grateful to you guys.

The header photo was taken by a very talented photographer of mine, who you can find on facebook  or on his instagram. Please check him out, he is fantastic!

Thanks so much for reading! Love you guys always,
