Work Makeup Routine

I get up reasonably early for work, so I have needed to streamline my makeup routine. I can’t sit around, playing with eyeshadows and deciding whether I should wear blush (note to self: ALWAYS wear blush, you want to look alive), so I’ve come up with a fast and easy routine that makes me look fresh and put together, but without being too much for a 9 hour work day in front of a computer (sometimes longer)

One of my top tips is to have it all packed the night before so it’s ready to go in the morning. I switch around the products I use a few times a week, depending on the day, what I’m wearing etc, but will always have an entire face of makeup in my makeup bag for me to use in the morning. I’m telling you – this is a LIFESAVER.

I start with a clear primer, I’ve been using the ELF Acne fighting primer for a while now and it’s really good. Whatever you choose has to depend on your skin though, and how long you plan to wear the makeup for. My skin holds onto makeup reasonably well, so I can get away with a primer like this.

I then colour correct with NYX Colour Corrector, then use a beauty blender to buff no more than 4 half drops of NYX Total Control foundation on my face. I like to use concealer more than foundation, so I’ll then go under my eyes with something like the Smashbox BB concealer, and then around my nose and on discolourations with Essence Camouflage Concealer.

Cream products last longer, so I take the Be A Bombshell cream blush stick in Southern Belle on my cheeks, then set it all down with ELF HD Setting Powder (ELF needs to sponsor me real bad). Of course, you can always set your face with a setting spray to make it last longer, but I find for a regular day I’m okay with just powder.

To warm up my skin a bit, I use a bronzer like Hoola by Benefit, then highlight my high points with Smashbox Spotlight Highlighting Palette in Turn it On.

To define my face, I’ll run a bit of ABH Brow Wiz through my brows, then tightline my eyes with Chi Chi Eyeliner in Bronze Ambition. For long days, I’ll use a liquid eyeliner and so a small flick – my favorite for this is Kat Von D Tattoo Lockit Liner. I’ll top off with Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

I rarely wear lipstick to work as it just comes off, and liquid lipstick is too uncomfortable for the day to day. I’ll run a bit of lip liner around my lips (Rimmel make a great nude one) and just apply lip balm.

This takes me about 5 minutes total and I’m good to go!

Hope you enjoyed!

10-Minute Drugstore Makeup for Valentine’s Day

I’m not a huge believer in Valentine’s Day, but I’l take every opportunity I can to doll myself up! This year, for Valentines I am going for lunch with my best friend, and that’s about it. Still – I thought a very fast and easy makeup look would be perfect for getting into the spirit if you’re that way inclined! Enjoy xx

Products Used:

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer
Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
Elf Tone Correcting Powder
BH Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil
Tanya Burr Rosy Glow Cheek Palette
NYX Blush in Taupe (for contour)
Colourpop Gel Liner in Swerve
Chi Chi 3D Magic Lash Mascara (forgot to include in this pic – whoops)
NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in 11

Although a lot of people go for a cute, shimmery look for Valentine’s, I thought ‘fuck it’ and decided to rock a red lip. I’d definitely go for a liquid lipstick, as they last through eating, drinking and kissing. I chose such a simple look because I really believe a classic winged liner and red lip with flawless skin looks good on everyone, is easy to achieve and is effortlessly in the spirit. I’d also go for a gel liner like I did for precision and staying power (this stuff won’t come off no matter what you do on V-Day night – wink wink).

Don’t forget to contour your nose a little and use some concealer and a flat brush to clean up your lip line and eyeliner.

Hope this gave you some inspiration!

Overseas Travel Essentials

As you’d know if you read my latest post, I recently spent a week in the beautiful Hong Kong. So, I thought I’d share my essentials in my carry on for the 14 hour, entertainment free flight.

To Keep Occupied

Of course, you’re going to want your phone, camera and chargers. In terms of electronics, I also brought my kindle (which my mum has, so in its place is my tablet), and my friend took her laptop and a dual headphone adaptor so we could watch movies together. I also took with me a small notebook and pen, to jot down ideas or simply sketch if I felt the need. Having a pen is also really handy when it comes to filling in customs forms.

Passport, boarding passes, wallet. You know the drill, just don’t forget them. It’s also a good idea to get copies and leave them with loved ones at home, in case you lose your passport or something overseas.
If you’re going to a warmer country, a handheld fan, sunglasses and a cap can really help you once you’ve gotten off the plane and are thrust into an unfamiliar climate.

To Keep Clean & Hydrated

I packed a little pouch with hand sanitiser, face wipes, lip balm and hand cream, and let me tell you it made my life a hell of a lot nicer. I also brought some warm socks which I put on before we even took off. I bought myself a litre bottle of water in the airport, and drank the whole thing up in the air. Your skin will thank you for it.

Keeping Warm

Flights are always damn cold, so make sure you dress appropriately. I wore some comfy leggings and a singlet, while also bringing a cardigan and a scarf so I could stay warm as I napped. Wearing a sports bra and some good quality shoes also helps keep you comfortable.

Don’t overpack. You’d rather have less to carry through an airport, especially the big ones. Just have a little backpack that has all your essentials in it, and leave it at that. All my toiletries, makeup, etc were in a bigger bag which was my only other bag for the trip. We took these bags as carry on too, so I was lucky enough to have all my possessions in arms reach if I needed them. If you can get away with it, not checking in a suitcase makes life a hell of a lot easier for you.

Drugstore Valentine’s Day Makeup

Everyone seems to be doing posts about Valentine’s Day recently, and, as much as I don’t really support the holiday, I’m not opposed to doing some pretty makeup! Here is a look I created with entirely drugstore products. Hope you enjoy!

I started out with my eyes – laying a white base all over the lid and setting with a cream colour, before adding a light warm brown and a shimmery purple to my crease and under my lashline. I then did a thin black wing, and tightlined to make it all seamless. I curled my lashes, added some mascara to my top lashes, and was done with the eyes.

After lightly filling in my brows with a pencil, I continued on to the face. My aim was to make it nice and natural, with a pore-filling primer, a medium coverage foundation, and a tiny bit of concealer under my eyes. I did not try to highlight, I just corrected my eye bags. I set my face with an illuminating powder, and put some coral blush high up on my apples, to make me look more “cute”. I opted for no bronzer, as to keep with the sweetness of the look. I used a light shade from my eyeshadow palette for a bit of highlight.

Finally, I used a bright pink lipstick and topped it off with a shimmery lipgloss.

I paired this look with a neutral nail.

My Makeup Collection – Bronzers

Here is the bronzers part of my makeup collection! ENJOY!

Here’s how I store it…

Top Left: Australis AC On Tour Contour Kit
The centre shade is great for contouring, and the other two make nice warm bronzers.

Top Right: Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
This is the perfect bronzer and contour for fair skin. I freaking love it, and it smells like chocolate.

Centre: Body Shop Warm Glow Mineralized Bronzer
This is almost a bronzer, highlighter and blush in one. It’s really nice as a blush/bronzer topper as it has shimmer through it.

Bottom Right: NARS Laguna Bronzer
THE BEST contouring shade ever!

Bottom: Tanya Burr Beach Bronze
Great dupe for the Too Faced bronzer, although it has a little bit of shimmer and can sometimes get muddy if applied too heavily.

I hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for the rest 🙂
