How To: Be Confident

It’s no secret that most people want to be more confident. Exuding confidence makes you more attractive, well-liked and simply a happier person. If you aren’t blessed with natural confidence, all you have to do is fake it!

1.Trick yourself

If you convince yourself that every moment is a chance to prove how confident and fun you are, you’ll automatically come off that way. Just make sure you are careful that it doesn’t come off as obnoxious! Fun fact, this is also a good way to ace exams: convince yourself that they are fun and a chance to prove your intelligence.

2. Wear clothes & makeup that suit you and make you feel good

Honestly, it’s probably time you cleared out your wardrobe and makeup collection. You know those things we keep and wear but never feel good in? Get rid of them. Life is too short to wear stuff you hate. If you feel most confident in a red lip, rock it every day. Why the hell not?

3. Don’t try and ‘fit in’ with the confident people

If you think that listening to Violent Soho on repeat and smoking will make you cool and confident, you’re wrong. There is no magic formula to being confident other than simply being you and rocking it. If you are a J-Pop fangirl, just embrace it. It’s that type of confidence that everyone wishes they had.

4. Body language

Sit up straight, walk with your head up, stop looking down at your phone all the time. Trust me. Also, this means you see more of the world around you. You can always learn more just by simply observing.

5. Stop comparing

Unfollow all those hot instafit models on instagram. They aren’t helping you embrace and be confident in YOU. Stopping comparing yourself is difficult as we are programmed to act that way. However, you can do it, you just really need to learn to not give a fuck. And voila! You’re a bad bitch full of confidence.

6. Exercise and looking after yourself

Most times our confidence is related to our appearance. I’m not saying that to be confident you have to be hot/fit/always at the gym, but looking after yourself affects your mood and makes you feel healthier and better. Even if you’re just making an effort to move more, this will help you look and feel better. Win win.

Ultimate Selfie Makeup

Getting the ultimate selfie is, of course, everyone’s biggest priority! Okay, I’m kidding, but knowing makeup that photographs well is pretty helpful. Of course, a bright lip and graphic eyeliner will look stunning in any photo, but I’ve decided to show you a much more natural look that I’ve tailored to play up my features in photos. Hope you enjoy!

The base is everything in a photo, so I’ve gone for a porefilling primer, a bit of colour correcting under the eyes, lightly filled in brows (but still filled in) and a medium coverage foundation. I blended all of this in super well with a beauty blender.

I then moved onto my eyes. My eyes are the feature I like to play up to most, so I took my time here. Now, because I have brown eyes, I chose warm neutrals with a hint of purple from Too Faced’s chocolate bar palette to really make the colour pop. I kept the technique simple – darker colours on the outer v and crease and blended under the lashline. I also rubbed out some dark brown eyeliner (L’Oreal) after tightlining and waterlining. Lining my whole eye in a dark liner really makes the brown pop I feel. I curled my lashes and added approximately three hundred coats of Chi Chi mascara. I went for a nude, matte lip by Colourpop (Midi) and patted it in with my finger as I feel a subtle lip suits me better.IMG_0251.JPG

I then concealed (light for undereyes, normal for face), set that with the lightest colour from the Australis AC On Tour palette, and set my whole face with Hourglass Dim Light.

I feel that contour is the most important thing in a photo, as the light can really take away the shape from your face. I used Hoola by Benefit, Moonstone by Becca for a highlighter and this beautiful elf blush. IMG_0250.JPG

Flawless Skin & Neutral Eyes for a Photoshoot

Today I had a photoshoot with my agency where I had to do my own hair, makeup and style my own outfits. I thought I’d do a blog post to let you know what I used to create a flawless base and neutral (yet with a bit of flair) eyes so that all the right features stood out on camera. Hope you enjoy!

Pre – Makeup

I started out by using my moisturiser, which is The Body Shop shea beautifying oil which always makes my makeup last longer, look smoother and glow – I love it! Don’t ever forget to moisturise, even if you have oily skin. It really helps your foundation look way more natural and last longer.

After letting that sink in for a good minute or so, I went on to use my primer. For special occasions I use the Stila One Step Correct primer. Although it is ridiculously expensive, it is super moisturising and really helps tone the redness down in my cheeks. My ultimate tip for a flawless base is to take your time. Honestly, let the primer sink right into your skin for about 3 minutes before continuing wit foundation – it will make your make up look beautiful.

I used Nars Sheer Glow in Gobi, and concealed my under eyes, centre of my nose and chin with the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer in Ivory. I blended all this in with a blending sponge, then set it all down with the NYX Radiant Finishing Powder in Brighten and a large kabuki brush. I like using glowy products because I think a dewy finish looks great in photos. Be careful not to go too over the top though, as the flash can make you look like a disco ball. I applied all the above products sparingly, only to the places I needed them.

To contour and also bronze up my skin, I used Laguna by Nars and the middle contour shade from the Australis AC On Tour contour kit. For blush, I opted for Orgasm by Nars, and finished off with highlighting the high points of my face with an Essence cream to powder highlighter. I set all this powder down with the NYX Dewy Finishing Spray. Contouring and blusher are essential for photos – you need to make sure you don’t look like a 2D face and have some structure and life in your complexion.

Eyes and Eyebrows

I filled in my eyebrows quite naturally using a very light hand with my NYX Eyebrow Gel in Espresso, and set them with a tiny bit of the Natio tinted brow set – this has a purple colour to it that helps make the brows look less ‘done’.
I then used the shade ‘Foxy’ from the second Naked palette all over my lid, and then ‘Get Lucky’ my ColourPop extremely lightly all over the lid. I added a bit of NYX white eyeliner into my inner corner to pop out in the photos, and smudged some L’Oreal brown liner into my tightline. I finished off by curling my eyelashes and adding a tonne of Covergirl LashBlast mascara.

I used my Chanel lipliner in Rouge very lightly around my lips and buffed it in with my finger, then topped off with Gerard Cosmetics lip gloss in Shimmer of Hope. I felt nude lips with a hint of a rosey definition from the lipliner was the perfect neutral lip for all my outfits. Generally, glossy lips aren’t always the way to go when it comes to flash photography, but for some reason I decided to be a rebel and it turned out fine.

I hope someone found this useful! Here are some pictures of the finished look – they are raw (unprocessed) photos so you can see exactly how the makeup looks.
