Sunday Routine

Sundays are a very underutilised day. Often used to nurse a hangover or binge the latest season of Geordie Shore (which sucks without Holly, btw), this is a whole day before the working week that you can used to your advantage. Ever wanted to wake up on a Monday morning and feel completely ready for the week ahead? That’s how I feel every Monday, and it all starts on the meek day of Sunday.

1.Write a List

This is perhaps the most important step of the day, as without a list, your day will have no direction for the day. I like to use a similar method to Kalyn Nicholson’s GYST day, and include cleaning, planning, self care and relaxing. That way, I wake up on Monday feeling super refreshed. If you get up, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and write out your list first thing, you’ll be super inspired to get on with the day and make it work for you.

2. Cleaning

This doesn’t have to take all day, but get the boring cleaning and household admin out of the way first up. Put things away, make your bed, wash your sheets & clothes, wipe down the counters, sweep, mop and vacuum, dust and water your plants. Blast some music and just get it done. There is honestly nothing better than a clean space, so do it first and keep your inspiration for the rest of the day.

3. Planning

I use this time to plan out my meals and do my groceries, as well as to meal prep. I love having all my meals sorted for the week ahead, whether that means they are cooked, the ingredients are simply prepped or even just my snacks are bought and in the cupboard. It definitely helps me out for the rest of the week. I’ll also go through my bank account on my computer (not on the app) and sort out my finances for the week ahead, and put out what I want to wear the next day, as well as group my outfits in my wardrobe for the rest of the days of the week.

4. Workout

This may not be for everyone, but I for one like to carve out some time on a Sunday to get in a workout or at the very least do a big walk around the block. Getting moving and getting outside will help clear your head of the mundane activities you’ve just done and get you ready for the next part of the day.

5. Self Love

I wish I had a bath, but you can definitely show yourself a bit of self-love without one. Take some time to shave, tan, wash your hair, full body moisturise, do a face mask and a pore strip. Do all the things that you forget/don’t have time to do throughout the week, and go into Monday feeling fresh.

6. Creativity

By this point in my Sunday, I’m ready to me winding down. So, instead of bingeing something on Netflix, I like to use my creativity for a good purpose. I create and fill out my Bullet Journal spread for the week ahead, do some writing or photography for my blog or book. Even just half an hour of getting my creativity flowing helps my mental state more than I could explain.

7. Relaxation

When Sunday is coming to an end and night is upon you, this is a good chance to do a guided meditation or some yoga, call a loved one, light some candles and treat yourself. Sometimes I like to make myself something a little extra-special for dinner, read a book or watch a movie. By the time I’m ready for bed, I’m in a freshly-sheeted bed in clean pj’s, full tummy and fresh hair and body. It makes waking up on Monday a world easier when everything that stresses you out has already been done.

How To: Get Up Earlier

For my job, I have to commute two hours each way. And do you know what that means? My alarm is set at 5.25am. I have never been an early riser, and I have to admit, when I got the job I was worried. Now? It’s fine. I have my initial freakout when my alarm goes off but as soon as I’m up, it’s all good. So, from one girl who used to get up at 10am on a good day to another, let me help you get up earlier.

This first tip is all about the alarm. We’ve all heard the trick of putting your phone on the other side of the room – but that does not work at all for me. I tend not to use my phone just before bed (more on that later), but it charges next to my bed. So, I got told about this ad – Alarmy – and it is the only reason that getting up at five am is possible. You can customise how to turn off the alarm – doing maths problems or shaking it, but mine is set of taking a picture of a cereal box in my kitchen. So, as soon as it goes off, I roll out of bed, grab my phone and go into the kitchen to take my photo. By the time that’s done, 30 seconds later, I’m completely awake and think “now I’m here, I may as well put the kettle on”. And so, my morning starts, and it’s as easy as that.

img_1737

Another thing I do is wind down. Every night, about half an hour before bed, I put my phone on charge and face down. Then, I wind myself down. Have some chammomile tea, brush my teeth, moisturise my body, write in my bullet journal and have a read. Soon enough, I’m sleepy and relaxed, so I’ll do a meditation session and drift off into a good quality sleep (this is very important if you’re getting up early, trust me!).

IMG_1738.JPG

I also tend to set everything out for myself in the morning. I mean EVERYTHING. All my skincare, makeup, clothes and food (I meal prep for the week and pack my snacks the night before). In the morning, this is a lifesaver.

IMG_1769.JPG

A way I kickstart my day is to skull a heap of water. I try and get down a half litre before I eat anything, to get a load of my water intake out of the way, to help my metabolism and to help me stay hydrated and therefore keep my energy.

img_1736

I also love having a good breakfast to look forward too. It makes it a hell of a lot easier to get on with your morning if one of your tasks is to prepare and eat something delicious. I love avocado toast with feta and mint, with a cup of english breakfast tea.

img_1765

NB: If I don’t finish my tea, I tip what’s left into my takeaway cup and carry on.

I hope this helped someone out there! Getting up early isn’t easy, but just remember WHY you’re doing it, and the rest seems to fall into place 🙂

My Festive Relaxation Routine • Blogmas

Welcome to my Blogmas! I love Christmas so much, and the best way to celebrate is with Christmas related posts every day at 5pm WordPress time until the 25th! Hope you enjoy!

The silly season is named so for a good reason, and it is only natural that it is a high stress period in terms of family, finance and just general business. Due to this, it is more important during this time than ever to give yourself an opportunity to relax. So when times are getting a bit overwhelming, this is the relaxation routine I will do to reset and give myself pause in a busy day. If you want to see more like this, My Relaxation Routine went down very well, so go check that out too!

The first thing I’ll do is put on some comfy clothes and turn my phone off. This doesn’t mean silent, it means completely off. I don’t want anyone to contact me, and I don’t want any of my social media to distract me when I’m trying to be mindful.

IMG_1620.JPG

img_1615

If I’m feeling particularly angry, I’ll have a hard workout and sweat it all away. If not, I’ll go for a long walk. Either way, exercise during the festive season is paramount as we aren’t exactly our healthiest, are we?

IMG_1619.JPG

After this, I might take a long shower or bath, and really take time to look after my body, by exfoliating or washing my hair. Being in the water does wonders.

img_1616

Lighting a relaxing candle that smells fresh and not too sweet can immediately put me in a calmer state of mind.

img_1617

Alongside this, using an essential oil in lavender on my pulse points (wrists, behind my ears, temples) gets the relaxing scents going and makes relaxing practically impossible.

img_1614

Brewing a herbal tea is the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the moment. I try and take my time drinking it, being grateful for every sip. I like to do this outside, as sometimes what is making us stressed is being cooped up inside. Fresh air can work miracles, and people watching or simply observing nature at work in your own yard can really put your stress in perspective. A good way to help sort out your mind is journalling, so while I’m drinking my tea, I try and figure out the exact cause of my stress, and work on ways I can help resolve it. Just writing it all out – or drawing it if you’re that way inclined – has some kind of magic powers, I swear.

Is there anything else that you do to relax over the silly season? Let me know!

Festive Morning Routine • Blogmas

Welcome to my Blogmas! I love Christmas so much, and the best way to celebrate is with Christmas related posts every day at 5pm WordPress time until the 25th! Hope you enjoy!

Today it’s my festive morning routine! I love reading posts like these – I hope you love it!

The first thing I do when I wake up is drink a crapload of water. Considering we eat so badly this month, it’s important to help your body flush out the toxins by keeping up your water intake! I’ll then open my blinds and make my bed.

I’ll head out of my room then and check my advent calendars. I have a Cadbury chocolate one, and one that my mum puts a little gift in for me everyday since I’ve moved home. Usually it will be a bit of chocolate or a tiny festive trinket.

IMG_1520.JPG

After this, I’ll turn on the Christmas tree lights and make myself some breakfast. This is more often than not avocado on toast and a cup of tea. I’ll connect my computer to the TV and watch all the vlogmas videos that have been uploaded through the night.

After I’ve finished, I’ll take my computer into my study and get working on my next blogmas post!

My Morning Routine

I have never been a morning person. The second I graduated school and didn’t have to get up at 7, I didn’t. Now you’re lucky to see me out of bed before 9.

I do like mornings though. They’re a good space to get yourself planned for the rest of the day. So, I thought I’d share mine with you all. Also, check out my night routine 🙂

When I wake up, I like to have a huge drink of water and check my social medias. Pretty standard, but I like catching up on things I’ve missed. I also like to read the news and play a game of solitaire, or do some brain training on Luminosity (yes, I actually do these things, I’m not just saying them so you think I’m put together haha).

I then make myself some tea and my breakfast. This will change day to day, but I love avocado toast with a bit of sea salt, or eggs with oregano and maybe some cheese on top. I’m not really a cereal person, but if I have some it will usually be brown rice porridge with some brown sugar. I used to always skip breakfast, but now I feel it’s definitely impossible for me to do that. I bloody love breakfast!

IMG_0422.JPG

While I eat I usually watch some YouTube videos. I’m a huge YouTube fan, and most of my subscriptions upload in the middle of the night for me, so I catch up now. It always puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

IMG_0411.JPG

I’ll also check my emails and do some work, be it uni work, blog work or writing. I’ll also double check my to-do list for the day (I love lists) and make sure I’m getting started on it all.

I’ll then brush my teeth and do my skincare, which you can see my routine for here. I use these products for the most part every day.

IMG_0412.JPG

-Clindatech
-NUXE oil
-Heroine Make Eyelash Serum
-Pantene dry shampoo
-Soap and Glory body butter
-Kmart Argan Oil Hair Oil

I’ll get dressed and do my hair (which mainly means brushing it and forgetting about it), and put some makeup on. My everyday makeup is pretty simple, and you can check it out here 🙂

IMG_0381.JPG

Then, I’ll pack my bag for uni (here are my essentials), or wherever I’m going that day and head out the door.

I hope you enjoyed!
