Sunday Routine

Sundays are a very underutilised day. Often used to nurse a hangover or binge the latest season of Geordie Shore (which sucks without Holly, btw), this is a whole day before the working week that you can used to your advantage. Ever wanted to wake up on a Monday morning and feel completely ready for the week ahead? That’s how I feel every Monday, and it all starts on the meek day of Sunday.

1.Write a List

This is perhaps the most important step of the day, as without a list, your day will have no direction for the day. I like to use a similar method to Kalyn Nicholson’s GYST day, and include cleaning, planning, self care and relaxing. That way, I wake up on Monday feeling super refreshed. If you get up, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and write out your list first thing, you’ll be super inspired to get on with the day and make it work for you.

2. Cleaning

This doesn’t have to take all day, but get the boring cleaning and household admin out of the way first up. Put things away, make your bed, wash your sheets & clothes, wipe down the counters, sweep, mop and vacuum, dust and water your plants. Blast some music and just get it done. There is honestly nothing better than a clean space, so do it first and keep your inspiration for the rest of the day.

3. Planning

I use this time to plan out my meals and do my groceries, as well as to meal prep. I love having all my meals sorted for the week ahead, whether that means they are cooked, the ingredients are simply prepped or even just my snacks are bought and in the cupboard. It definitely helps me out for the rest of the week. I’ll also go through my bank account on my computer (not on the app) and sort out my finances for the week ahead, and put out what I want to wear the next day, as well as group my outfits in my wardrobe for the rest of the days of the week.

4. Workout

This may not be for everyone, but I for one like to carve out some time on a Sunday to get in a workout or at the very least do a big walk around the block. Getting moving and getting outside will help clear your head of the mundane activities you’ve just done and get you ready for the next part of the day.

5. Self Love

I wish I had a bath, but you can definitely show yourself a bit of self-love without one. Take some time to shave, tan, wash your hair, full body moisturise, do a face mask and a pore strip. Do all the things that you forget/don’t have time to do throughout the week, and go into Monday feeling fresh.

6. Creativity

By this point in my Sunday, I’m ready to me winding down. So, instead of bingeing something on Netflix, I like to use my creativity for a good purpose. I create and fill out my Bullet Journal spread for the week ahead, do some writing or photography for my blog or book. Even just half an hour of getting my creativity flowing helps my mental state more than I could explain.

7. Relaxation

When Sunday is coming to an end and night is upon you, this is a good chance to do a guided meditation or some yoga, call a loved one, light some candles and treat yourself. Sometimes I like to make myself something a little extra-special for dinner, read a book or watch a movie. By the time I’m ready for bed, I’m in a freshly-sheeted bed in clean pj’s, full tummy and fresh hair and body. It makes waking up on Monday a world easier when everything that stresses you out has already been done.

What do your Sundays look like?

Nighttime Photoshoot

I’ve written so many of these posts before there is basically no need for an introduction – just go and check out my v talented friend who takes beautiful photos in the Sydney area. He will do parties and events too! If you’re reading this, love you Sib 🙂 Check out his Facebook & Instagram!

We did this one in Newtown which is a cool, hipster part of Sydney. We had never done a night shoot before and the whole thing was kind of on a whim, so we’re pretty impressed with how the images turned out!

Evening Routine

My evenings are the time I take for myself. Of course, my evenings aren’t always the same. Sometimes I come home straight from a long day at work and crash, sometimes I go to my second job as a school tutor. I hang out with friends, go to dinner, hit up Thursday night shopping or go for a walk.

For the most part, however, I like to use my time to reenergize myself for the day to come, and these are the steps I take to make that happen.

The first things I do when I walk in the door are essential for me; I turn on my salt lamp, play some music through my bluetooth speaker, and take my makeup off. If I’m not working out, I’ll immediately put on some comfy clothes too.

I’ll then set up my clothes for the following day. I do this every night and it honestly takes the stress out of mornings for me! I grab my workout clothes and do a workout after a doing this and a bit of tidying if my flat needs it. I try and tidy for 15-20 mins a day to make sure it’s always beautiful. Tidy house = tidy mind.

After I finish a workout, I’ll eat something. I tend to meal prep or food prep, so this takes me 5 minutes to whip up. I’ll also tend to make a bit extra of whatever I’m having so I can take it to work the next day for lunch. Tonight, I had a salad with chicken, rocket, sweet potato, ricotta, pine nuts, parmesan and balsamic glaze. Sometimes I’ll have a protein shake after a workout, and if I do it’s a LUXE Fitness vanilla shake.

I’ll take my time eating my dinner to chill out, watch some TV or YouTube, and make sure I’m drinking enough water.

I’ll then pop into the shower before doing my skincare and brushing my hair. I’ll definitely be doing an updated skincare routine sometime soon!

After this, I’ll turn off all electronics and read something, or write in my bullet journal. A blog post all about my bullet journal is coming super soon 🙂 I’ll also tend to make a cup of calming tea. This night it was chamomile, in this gorgeous one-cup teapot from T2.

When I’ve properly chilled out, I’ll brush my teeth and go to bed. Some nights I meditate, some nights I stay up till 1am on my phone even though I said I turned off my electronics… life is about balance, haha.

Sweet dreams!

My Relaxing Night Routine

I love reading night routines, so I thought I’d share mine with some pretty photos! Hope you enjoy!

I usually get home from work around 8pm. The first thing I try to do is put everything away & take my makeup off. At the moment I’m using the Rosehip micellar water but I tend to buy whatever’s cheapest.

I’ll then make myself some dinner. Considering I get back so late, I usually like to make a big batch of something earlier in the week for me to eat every night, something like a big pasta bake, stirfry or risotto that I can heat up and is full of veg.

After this, I’ll do my exercise if I haven’t done it during the day. For me, that’s usually just a circuit of things like squats, mountain climbers, cycle crunches and burpees – stuff like that. I won’t normally go for longer than 20 minutes. There’s something really therapeutic about working out at night, so if you struggle in the mornings, you might like this way. It really helps me get out my stress, tiredness and resentment from the day.

I’ll then shower and do my skincare routine. You can read all about that here, though these days I tend to use the NUXE oil and a konjac sponge to wash my face.

After I’m all clean and cosy, I make myself a tea and get to work doing assignments, readings or whatever I need to do. If, by some miracle, I have nothing to do, I’ll work on a blog post of watch an ep of a TV show. I’m one of those people who binge watches TV shows, but I’m slowly getting through Mad Men (I know, I know, I’m so late on the bandwagon), so I have something to watch.

If I’m going to be working for a long time, I’ll make myself a peppermint tea, but if it’s just a bit (half an hour or so) I’ll make a cammomile. I love cammomile tea before bed as I do really find it relaxes me.

During this time, I’ll figure out what I need to do the next day. I love lists, so I just jot down everything I need to get done. I feel this way I go to sleep a lot less anxious about how busy I am.

It’s then time for me to brush my teeth, and do some stretching. It’s now that I’ll say goodnight to my roommate and close my door – basically within half an hour of sleeping. I’ll do a yoga session using downdog, or simply just stretch myself out on my mat.

If I’m feeling it, I’ll light a candle. I’ll always finish the texts I need to text and put my phone away, and read a book for a while, just to give my eyes a break. I’ve recently been using the app ‘Twilight’ that filters out the blue light, and I’ve found this helps. Still, I’m a mad reader, so I use this time to catch up. I’ll also use some hand cream and lipbalm.

When I’ve finished reading and am starting to get really sleepy, I’ll fill in my Thankful Journal that helps remind me of all the good things I have. I try to meditate a couple of times a week, and I always use the app Smiling Mind. I highly recommend you try it if you’re thinking about meditating, it is super easy to follow and I genuinely think it works. I just realised how sponsored that sounded… trust me, it’s not! (I’m not that popular on here lol)

Now, I get to do my favourite thing besides eating, sleep 🙂
